Overview

Kibale National Park, located in western Uganda near the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, is one of Africa’s top destinations for primate tracking and tropical rainforest biodiversity. Covering about 795 square kilometers, the park is renowned for having the highest density and diversity of primates in East Africa, including over 1,500 chimpanzees, along with 12 other species such as red colobus, L’Hoest’s monkey, and grey-cheeked mangabey.

The chimpanzee tracking experience is the park’s main attraction, offering visitors the chance to observe these highly intelligent animals in their natural forest environment. A chimpanzee habituation experience (CHEX)is also available, allowing for a full-day immersive visit with a semi-habituated group.

Kibale is also a hotspot for birdwatching, with over 370 recorded bird species, including several rare forest species like the African pitta, green-breasted pitta, African grey parrot, black bee-eater, and great blue turaco. The forest is home to elephants, buffaloes, duikers, giant forest hogs, and other mammals, though these are more elusive and harder to spot due to the dense forest.
