Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, situated in southwestern Uganda along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its incredible biodiversity and as a sanctuary for nearly half of he world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Encompassing 321 km² of rugged, mountainous terrain blanketed in ancient montane and lowland rainforest, the park is one of the oldest and most biologically rich ecosystems in Africa, believed to have persisted through the last Ice Age.

Besides the over 20 habituated gorilla families available for daily trekking, the park also supports13 species of primates, including chimpanzees, L'Hoest's monkeys, and black-and-white colobus monkeys, as well as forest elephants, antelopes, and bush pigs. Birdwatchers are drawn to its 350+ bird species, including 23 Albertine Rift endemics, such as the African green broadbill and Shelley’s crimson wing.

With its rare wildlife, spectacular scenery, and deeply rooted cultural heritage, Bwindi is not only a top ecotourism destination but also avital stronghold in the global effort to protect endangered species.
